Change Sparks is a business mentoring program that will teach you how to channel your entrepreneurial energy to help communities, and in a larger scale, the Philippine society. You will learn how to make your business a tool for social empowerment.
Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship
This would provide an overview of the description of social entrepreneurship in terms of the identity of the entrepreneur, development situations and best practices.
Social Business Development
This would train the participants in coming up with a business model that respond to development challenges.
This would enable the participants to develop their social messages or brands given the advocacy that they have in the form of social enterprise products or services.
Social Enterprise Operations
This would introduce to the participants the development and the implementation of the social value chain in maximizing social impact through the enterprise.
Development Partnerships and Mobilization
This would develop a framework of engagement given the multi-stakeholder and resource building activities the social entrepreneur will have in his/her work in development.
This would provide the participants both the ends and the means to conduct capacity building and mentoring to the multi-stakeholders of the social enterprise.
Social Impact Assessment and Evaluation
This would enable the participants to measure their outcomes in the process of attaining their triple bottom line through the enterprise.
The program is open to development professionals who seek to improve the sustainability of their respective programs through business, to corporate professionals who plan to integrate social impact in their work, and to the general public who looks forward to learn how to develop a social enterprise.
With the creation of the Change Sparks Social Entrepreneurship program, the ONE School aims to:
Develop students and young professionals in various sectors who would use social entrepreneurship as a tool in developing their enterprises and sustainable project initiatives.
Foster the culture of creativity and innovation amongst the faculty and students in developing social solutions through the integration of the design thinking concept and incubation
Enable partnerships with civil society and community-based sectors in the development of social enterprises
ONE School Profiles of Change Sparks Instructors
Kevin Martin dela Cruz has been working in the development sector for four (4) years assuming various roles as a social entrepreneur, government consultant for livelihood and education, and a program development manager. He started working as a program consultant for the Asian Institute of Management Center for Bridging Leadership and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.
Kevin has been a well-sought resource speaker and trainer by various youth and sectoral groups and organizations around the Philippines. To date, He has already given talks and workshops for over fifty (60) offices and organizations, which include the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Jesuit Volunteers Philippines, Team Energy Foundation Incorporated, Affiliated Network for Social Accountability – East Asia Pacific (ANSA-EAP), Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines – Diliman, and The Asia Foundation discussing topics ranging from youth leadership to social entrepreneurship development. He has already presented his experiences related to his diverse social innovation engagements in the Global Social Innovation Forum in Singapore and the Philippine Good Governance Summit.
He is also the founder of Ronda Palengke Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to provide technical and business support to urban and rural community-based enterprises and cooperatives. For this initiative, Kevin has successfully partnered with the Sikap Buhay Foundation based in the City of Quezon, and the Institute of Social Enterprise Development for the Community Enterprise Program to bridge community-based enterprises to possible market opportunities and enterprise partners. To strengthen the social enterprise model for this foundation, he is concurrently doing research consultancy works for the Center of Asian Mission for the Poor in their cooperative development project and for ANSA-EAP in their program sustainability project for the CheckMySchool Program.
Marikris Dickson de Guzman has been working in the public sector for more than six years as a research associate, legislative officer, and project coordinator for various government organizations such as Local Government Unit and National Government Agencies. She started as a research associate at the University of the Philippines-Information, Publication, Public Affairs Office and served as Legislative Officer at the Quezon City Local Government. She has also worked with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Household Targeting Office and National Youth Commission-Committee on Environment as a Project Coordinator.
Marikris has been active in student leadership and advocacy work focusing on Disaster Risk Reduction and Good Governance advocacy. She has given talks and conducted workshops within the country on leadership, project development and management, and advocacy strategies to student and civil society organizations. As an advocate, De Guzman has also been invited in international fora and conferences to discuss topics such as Good Governance during the ASEAN Youth Forum in Malaysia in 2014 and the 2014 GreeNation Youth Dialogue in Indonesia and disaster risk reduction advocacy during the 7th World Water Forum in South Korea and the 2nd Asia-Pacific Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation in Malaysia.
She is also the co-founder of the Good Governance Initiative, a Student Fellowship Program initially launched at the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance with the aim to train student leaders to be good governance advocates through emphasizing youth participation in governance through training activities and community immersion to help formulate innovative social development ideas. Currently, she is convening the ASEAN Young Public Servants to conduct educational trainings, campaign advocacies, and youth leadership development in the ASEAN region.
Dr. Elmer Soriano has over 15 years of experience in public health and development management. He was actively involved in a governance innovations program in the Philippines. He has written a number of papers on health governance and has published works under the ILO, GTZ, WHO, and World Bank. He holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Masters in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, and a doctor of medicine degree from the Philippines.
